I have been a Coxswain for many years but do to time and work commitments I am sorry to say that my Coxswain has gone into REYR AND it will expire this year. IF I lose my quals, may I still wear the device even though I am no longer a Coxswain?
The Coxswain device, once earned may always be worn, regardless of your activity in the program.

I am currently qualified as a crewman and engineer on the 47' MLB. I serve as u/w engineer perhaps 2-3 time a week. I am working on my PQS for OD and I have qualified for the Boat Force Operations pin. Is there anything in writing that would preclude me from qualifying as coxswain on the 47'? The book mentions that as engineer I am second in command if something were to happen to the coxswain, or he/she must be relived of command (very scary). Rummor has it that I cannot qualify as coxswain, however everything I read in the regulations only prohibits me from direct law enforcement ops/boarding teams.
The Auxiliary Operations Policy Manual COMDTINST M16798.3(series) states in Chapter 4 Part E.4.a- Boat or Cutter Support that an auxiliarist may...

Operational facilities that exceed 35 mph require Auxiliarists to wear 50mph rated life jackets. Operational facilities are required to carry 2 PFDs over the minimum required. Must these be rated 50mph as well?
CG-5421 has determined, with input from both the Auxiliary STAN Team and the Office of Boat Forces, that the 2 spare life jackets do not need to be...

Does the Stearns Utility Vest model 1424 meet the 50 mph impact rating? The CG Rescue and Survival Systems Manual (page A-8) lists a Lifesaving Systems vest model 1424(mesh)(d50)which I assume meets the 50 mph requirement. However, I beleive that the "1424" is the Stearns model number and the correct Lifesaving Systems number is 460A. The label of the Stearns #1424 vest does not indicate that it is impact rated. Mustang Survival no longer sells the Stearns #1424 (Mustang Survival MV1254). A representative of Mustang Survival told me that CG approval was withdrawn for the Stearns #1424 vest. A web listing of PFDs that meet the 50 mph impact requirement would be helpful.
The Stearns Model I424 with USCG/AUX markings is rated to 50MPH. It was retroactively rated so the rating is not indicated on the inside of vests...
